The Work of The Holy Spirit Part Three

Hey guys, we've been talking about the work of the Holy Spirit, the ministry of the Holy Spirit as Jesus describes in John 16. Okay, in there he talked about convicting the world of sin, which is his his job towards unbelievers to convict them of Jesus. And then we talked about convicting us to righteousness. Okay?

Which is his job towards believers. And now we're going to talk about uh this last thing where he says of judgment because the ruler of this world is judged. Now, when Jesus was walking this earth, he mentions this a couple times. He mentions the ruler of this uh world and he's talking about Satan.

Okay? So, Satan is who is judged by the Holy Spirit. We're not judged as believers. All right?

That was already taken of care of by Jesus. But Satan is judged. When was he judged? He was judged through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Okay? at the cross after he died was buried and rose again all power and authority was given to Jesus. Okay. The ruler of this world Satan was defeated.

Okay. He's his his rule ends in a sense. Okay. Now I looked up you know that this phrase ruler of the world and it doesn't appear in the Bible anymore after the gospels.

Okay. And Jesus himself uh in Matthew 28 explains why the cross did away with the devil's power. Okay. In Matthew 28, Jesus says as he's being uh brought up to to to heaven, he gives one last thing, the great commission, and he says, "All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and Son of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things I've commanded you. And lo, I am with you always, even to the ends of the end of the age. So Jesus Christ himself says that he has now been given all authority. Now if he has all authority, then Satan has none.

In other words, Satan is no longer the ruler of this world. Okay? And that kind of blew me away when I saw that because because I've heard preachers preach that, you know, that he's the ruler of the world. He's not.

He got defeated at the cross. He has no more power. Okay? Now, there Paul does say in Ephesians that we'll wrestle with principalities and rulers of darkness, okay?

Which are rulers plural, which are demons and stuff, but but they're rulers of darkness, okay? They're not in the light. If we're in the light as he is in the light, they have nothing that they can do, nothing they can uh mess with us. Okay?

Because again, Jesus clearly says in Matthew that all authority has been given to him on heaven, in heaven, and on earth. Okay? And not only that, he commissioned us to go out. Now if the president commisss a general to fight say ex war over here that general goes out with the full authority of the person who commissioned him.

So when Jesus Christ said all authority has been given to me and then he commissioned us he commissioned us to go out with his authority to make disciples to teach them to obey and to to love on believers obey his commandments which is biggest commandment was love god love others right so he's given us the power to do that he's given us the authority to do that okay so why why does saint mess with us then why are we fighting these demons and stuff if all power has been given to us. Okay? It's because you've let him in. All right?

Think of it this way. You got a neighbor who's got a very vicious dog. Okay? As long as you're in your house and the doors are locked, that dog can't harm you at all.

Okay? He can't get in. Ah, but if you open open up the door and let that vicious dog in, then you may get attacked by that vicious dog. You have to open up the door to allow the devil in for him to have any or his demons to for him to have any ability to mess with you.

Okay? You've been given the power and the authority, okay, to resist it. And what does James say? He says, "Resist the devil."

And what will he do? The devil will flee from you. Like a little dog running away, it's going to flee from you. Why?

He has no power if you will stay grounded in the Holy Spirit and resist the temptations and resist the devil. Okay? You have to allow the Holy Spirit to do its work. Listen, I'm just I've been learning this stuff over the last couple years.

I'm guilty of this just as well. I'm a fellow traveler on this path. Okay? I'm not a holier than thou dude who's who's nailed it.

I I'm a fellow traveler on this path. But the more I allow the Holy Spirit to clean me up, the more I allow the Holy Spirit's conviction to to to have me say the right thing, to reject that temptation, then the devil has to flee. It says that he will flee. And it also says in James that if you draw near to God, he will draw near to you.

All right? So, it's the relationship with Jesus. It's not works. It's the relationship.

Our only job as Christians is to center our lives on Jesus. Okay? Abide in him and then allow the Holy Spirit to begin to work to make us more like Jesus to clean us up. Okay?

And as you do, you will grow more like Jesus. And then the more you get like him, the more your joy will be complete because he came to make sure that our joy would be complete. Okay? That's the ministry of the Holy Spirit over these three days.

Test me. Don't don't make your own judgments. But but but look at scripture. Look at what Jesus said.

All authority has been given to him. And we have been commissioned with that authority. Okay? So let's go out and and claim ground for Jesus.

Let's stop being scared and let's go out and claim the authority that we have. Jesus is waiting for men and women to step up. Let's that be me and you. Okay, until next time, just remember Jesus loves you and there's nothing you can do about it.
