I challenge and encourage my church all the time to get into the Word, get reading that
Bible, for it is instruction; it is life. And we may say we “love” Jesus with all our heart, and we may even mean it in the moment-but do our actions show this to be true? You see, by “their fruits you will know them.” Matthew 7:20
Is God the first thought of your day? Or do you hit the snooze alarm until it is so late you
have no time for the Bible; you have to hurry and get ready for work. Is time with Jesus
something you do when, and if, you can fit it in? Or when you feel like it most? How does your Monday through Saturday look? Does it show a person living for Jesus or a person living for themselves and adding a little Jesus only when it is convenient? Do you really trust Jesus with your life, or are you still trying to control it? A key test of whether you are on the throne or on Jesus is this: do you have worry, fear, or anxiety? Any area where you have fear or anxiety is an area you are trying to control, and an area you have not turned over to Jesus. Jesus said if we love Him, we will obey His commandments. (John 14:15)
Jesus said, “Don’t be troubled” John 14:1. So why do you fret? He said, “Do Not Worry.” Matthew 6:25. So why do you worry? IF Jesus is in control, then even this crazy world is a safe place because He is in control. Jesus is NOT on the throne if you have worry or fear or doubt. This is an area you can still grow in. How? Get into the Word every day. Wake up, spend a little time there, get some Jesus into your day FIRST thing, and watch how much better your day is, how much better you behave. Jesus is the key to a successful life: “Apart from Him, we can do nothing” John 15:5. Add Jesus time in first thing, no excuses, and do it day in and day out, and watch how you grow over time. You won’t even notice most of the changes, but a few years later you will look back and say, “Wow, I am twice the person I used to be. When did this happen?” And that will be a joyous time indeed. Start small if you are not doing it: a Proverb a day or a chapter of the book of John each day. Read it, marinate on it, let the Word, the Holy Spirit, do its work in you, and feel the true joy of living for Jesus. Let’s get started today. You can do it! Be blessed!
